Barn for holiday rent in Santa Maria de Buil

A new self catering accommodation in Santa Maria de Buil, Sobrarbe available for rent from Saturday 19th July 2008. As you can see the finishing details have yet to be completed.

Pajar Torres is a beautifully restored barn in its own grounds overlooking the village of Santa Maria de Buil in the Sierra de Guara. It’s at 911m of altitude and 16kms from Ainsa. Once you’ve reached the village church, prepare to stay in second gear for a 400m ride along a bumpy track. It’s well worth the effort though.

The kitchen/dining room is airy and light, with a high raftered ceiling, slab-stone floor and whitewashed walls. An old stone arch divides the kitchen/dining from the living area with its Moroccan inspired open fire place. To the right of the kitchen area, a few steps lead you down to the double bedroom and to the bathroom. Above is a mezzanine gallery with two double sofa beds and floor to ceiling window so you can gaze at the views. The interior is both contemporary and rustic: colours are neutral, fabrics are decorative, and furniture is restored – antique or sleekly modern.

From the garden, enjoy the magnificent views of the Aragonese Pyrenees: you can see Monte Perdido, the Peña Montanesa, Cotiella and the Turbón. This is an isolated setting for relaxing and unwinding; the next big village is Ainsa, which took over the role of capital of Sobrarbe from Santa Maria de Buil in the 12th century. A visit to the village’s 11th century Romanesque church declared national monument is a must. The Sierra de Guara is world famous for its canyons and canyoning as well as its hermitages, churches, villages, prehistoric cave paintings…
